Bower Ashton Home

Location: Bower Ashton, Bristol
Project type: Residential interior design

Our client reached out to us for help completing the kitchen, dining, and snug areas of their home, which blended 1930s architecture with a modern extension. After a multi-year renovation, they were overwhelmed by decisions and wanted an external perspective to guide the final touches through sourcing finishes, fittings and furniture. The aim was to integrate Scandinavian warmth, with rich textures, shapes and natural elements, while showcasing their diverse artwork collection.

The challenge lay in harmonising the eclectic elements while maintaining a cohesive and serene aesthetic throughout the home. To achieve this, we selected a neutral colour palette, which served as a canvas for the vibrant art pieces, allowing them to take centre stage. Soft, muted tones of whites, greys, and beiges were complemented by natural wood finishes, echoing the Scandinavian influence and providing a sense of tranquility and warmth.

In the kitchen, we opted for a more a traditional design featuring a thick quartz worktop, continued as a splashback for a luxurious, practical finish. Brass fixtures added sophistication, while open shelving offered space to display ceramic and glassware, adding character and a personal touch.

The dining area centres around a statement wooden round table, with space for a bench crafted from reclaimed wood that will be added at a later stage. This rustic warmth is contrasted by contemporary dining chairs in mixed materials, creating a dynamic and inviting setting for meals and gatherings.

In the snug, comfort was paramount. Plush seating in soft fabrics created a cosy retreat, while a mix of cushions and throws added layers of texture and colour.

Throughout the design process, we paid careful attention to lighting, both natural and artificial, to accentuate the home's features and create an ambiance that shifted with the time of day. Large windows and glass doors invited the garden inside, blurring the lines between interior and exterior, and reinforcing the home's connection to nature.

The result was a beautifully curated space that reflected the clients' tastes and lifestyle, blending old and new, art and function, into a harmonious and inviting home.
