Echoic Studio
Location: Clifton, Bristol
Project type: Office design
We collaborated with the team at Echoic Audio to fit out the interior of their music sound studio in Bristol. Innovative lighting design and carefully selected finishes were utilised to transform a small, windowless, basement-level office into a functional and inspiring space for the creative minds who work there.
Designing a music and sound studio in a small office space with no windows presented several challenges. One of the main obstacles was figuring out how to comfortably fit four people into small spaces with low ceilings, while also ensuring that the studio had optimal acoustics. Moreover, the absence of natural light in the space increased the importance of a carefully considered lighting design.
To address these challenges, we took a multifaceted approach. Firstly, we prioritised optimal acoustic performance by selecting finishes and materials that subdued unwanted sounds and created a soundproof environment. Secondly, we implemented innovative lighting solutions that could change depending on the time of day to mimic natural light as much as possible. Finally, we added glazed doors to the external walls to allow for a small amount of natural light to filter into the space.
Slatted walls were chosen not only as an aesthetic interior design concept and feature but also as a practical solution to enhance the best acoustic environment for a music and sound studio space.
The studio needed to accommodate multiple keyboards. We created a design that would be accessible and ergonomic, allowing to be comfortable for long periods of work in one place.
Ultimately, our focus was on creating a space that promoted collaboration, creativity, and wellbeing.
“Emilie is amazing, we worked with her on a studio build project and it turned out so beautifully that we are now working with her for our kitchen at home. She has fantastic ideas and really great taste.”
