Helsinki Apartment

Location: Helsinki, Finland
Project type: Residential interior design

This Art Nouveau flat in Helsinki required an interior design approach that maximised the available space while preserving its unique historical features. The project included a complete kitchen redesign, an optimised layout, and a new colour scheme throughout the space.

Due to the building’s Art Nouveau origins, the kitchen was awkwardly positioned, prompting the client to seek a layout that enhanced flow and connectivity throughout the apartment.

We explored a variety of layouts to identify the most functional kitchen design, despite the space constraints.

To maximise storage, we incorporated bespoke joinery for the kitchen bookshelves, ensuring both style and practicality.

The original ceiling of the property was restored and accentuated by a statement light.

All materials, furniture and finishes were sustainable, locally-sourced or reclaimed, to minimise the environmental impact.

Floor boards were painted with a light semi-gloss Farrow and Ball paint, in-keeping with the Art Nouveau style of the property.

“People and Spaces gave more than I could wish for for our renovation project. Emilie had fantastic listening skills and came up with creative solutions. She was clear in her communication and kept us informed about the budget. Appointing her saved us lot of time and we could not be happier with the result.”
