Lighting the Easiest Makeover in your Space

This my first ‘best of’ or ‘top list’ blog on the subject of lights. Lighting, the right type and level of lighting either makes or brakes your room. The easiest way to make an impact in your spaces is by lighting.

Sourcing A Bathroom Light - Less is More

I have added here ‘My Top 8 Pendant, Table and Ceiling Lights’ from classic brands to independent shops. This topic came to mind when I was specifically searching for a bathroom ceiling light. It was an easy brief, or so I thought. I wanted a simple light design that lit the room sufficiently. During my searching, I noticed a pattern, when it comes to bathroom lights there is plenty of choice if it's  ‘marine’, chandelier, or chrome style.

Lights in bathrooms need to be compliant and are zoned in numbers depending on the distance for example to a shower.  I did finally find one from Artemide Dioscuri, a classic round ball light fixed to the ceiling. The quality is so good that the light just shines immaculately throughout. Similar lights can be found in the Nordics such as Finland, in 1950’s apartment block bathrooms. For a vintage look, Lowlands in Bristol sells 1960’s glass ovals that can be fixed to the ceiling or wall. They have excellent quality vintage lights. I have bought several of their lights, and they add an atmosphere that only vintage lights can!

Sustainable Light - All in the Detail

Bamboo and rattan light shades are popular at the moment and are a great choice as a sustainable product but do vary in quality and detail. Nala Lighting shades are great in this space, for their bespoke quality and detail  and the holistic story of where they are sourced from.

Quality, Timeless Light will Suit Any Property - Design Matters

All the lights that I have chosen are in the mid range budget from £99-£275. Investing in a few timeless lighting pieces will last your lifetime. They are lights that you can easily take with you from home to home whether it be rental or owned. They will suit your next property whether a new build, 50s, 30s or Period.
