The Climbing Academy
Locations: Glasgow, Cheltenham, Bristol
Project type: Café fit-out
The Climbing Academy runs four state of the art climbing locations in the UK, in Glasgow, Cheltenham and Bristol. Each location is unique, from a repurposed news room in Glasgow to a church in Bristol. They were looking for a modern cafe design that would work across their diverse properties and tie them together with a distinctive look and feel.
The previous design had used reclaimed furniture that wasn't robust enough for a commercial environment. The challenge with this project was creating a slick, modern cafe design that was also durable and could stand up to a busy environment of diverse users.
We used plywood for both the furniture and walls to create a modern look that unified their eclectic locations. Arx Petra Joinery crafted custom benches and a slatted screen to define the cafe and reception areas, enhancing the flow of movement. We also chose commercial-grade furniture with a timeless aesthetic, to ensure the pieces would stand the test of time.
“Emilie has been an invaluable partner in the ongoing redesign of our cafe spaces at The Climbing Academy. People and Spaces offer a friendly and highly professional service that is sensitive to our input and particularities, working with us to find a solution in budget and to our tastes.”
